The Brush+ The Canvas= The Masterpiece

Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own masterpiece.

After years of not lifting a brush or creatively thinkingwhat could go on a canvas, I started to wonder how life’s experiences past and

present would contribute to my entrance back into the world of art. What medium
would I use? What artist or societal message would influence my work? These are questions that I pondered as Isought to find out how the years had molded me, as an artist.

Once I started to embrace the blank canvas, the one majortrait that emerged was allowing imperfection in my work. Some would call it
mistakes, but I define it as the ability to step back and let the work on the
canvas lead. Allow the crooked lines, deformed shapes or mirage of colors
    dictate the next brush strokes.

As an art teacher, I always told my students that a sheet ofpaper had a front and back, a pencil aneraser, and there are no mistakes in a work of art that cannot become a master
    piece.

From the depth of my soul came visions of how each objectcould become a voice for a message. I was always intrigued with the use of masks
in various cultures through the ages. The symbolic and ritual messages that
were illustrated through colors and shapes communicated a unified language.

The paintings in this series speak to the myriad of societal issues that exist as we navigate in this world. They are messages that communicate
the social emotional needs of individuals who feel unaccepted and not appreciated.
Each piece represents how embracing diversity is also an acknowledgment of our own
    immortality .

  • Title: Telepathy--- Acrylic. Defined as the supposed communication of thoughts or ideas by means other than the known senses. We carry a myriad of thoughts, but does anyone really know what we are thinking or feeling? The unspoken word is often in conflict with the thoughts we may assume a person is thinking. This acrylic painting features two masks representing partial faces. These faces illustrate the illusion of knowing what the other is thinking. The faces are surrounded by objects that are a part of the cognitive realm. Looking through the open eyes of each face, one can see an apple and hot air balloon. Yet, the question remains, “What am I thinking?”
